FULL-TIME GARDENER JOB SPECIFICATION:

This role is for a full-time Sole Gardener to work in a private garden. The 10 acre garden comprises a large meadow area and lawns, with some formal planting around the house. Also a patio area, woodland paths, ornamental pond and leisure areas. Additional support is available from time to time for hedge trimming, tree work and other significant tasks.

This role will suit a gardener with proven experience in taking responsibility for the maintenance of a garden to a high standard.

Responsibilities include

• The maintenance and presentation of the gardens, grounds and outside areas including: grass cutting, strimming, weeding, pruning, planting, hedge management, hard landscape maintenance, pond work and maintaining external furniture.
• Occasional supervision of on-site contractors.
• Must have a proven ability to operate machinery safely.
• Understand and comply with current Health and Safety legislation, training is available.
• Support with occasional maintenance or household tasks is required e.g. maintaining the household wood supply, setting fireplaces and taking deliveries so must be willing to adapt their role when required.

Experience and Skills

• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently under their own initiative.
• Have good organisational skills, able to plan the annual tasks required for the garden, and use good time management to deliver to a high standard.
• Able to supervise and work with others as required.
• Have a good knowledge of horticultural tasks, plantsmanship and landscape maintenance, ideally in a private garden or estate.
• Be a good communicator.
• Certificates in chemical (PA1 & PA6A) and C&G chainsaw level 2 preferred.
